Presentation Summary:

What do Supervisors of Music want as they observe your online application materials? How can you provide the best online image and become a finalist bypassing a myriad of applicants applying online for the same position? A survey was conducted utilizing the Best Communities for Music Education list developed through NAMM which is compiled each year. An online questionnaire was sent to school district music administrators/supervisors randomly identified.

Survey responses illustrate what online qualities were expected of applicants by the supervisors, and what procedures were utilized in selecting successful final candidates. Online procedures of candidates that were positive/negative are identified as well as specifics of how districts handle required sensitive data which could result in identity theft for the applicant.

This presentation also considers and makes suggestions for the following topics: how to use technology to develop an e-Portfolio for standout online presence; developing an online e-resume and e-application letter; protecting yourself from online identify theft; your online image and how to survive; Facebook dos/dont’s for strong online presence; online application mistakes  and turnoffs; security--surrendering of applicant’s Facebook password; online reference documentation; online resources for developing an outstanding application package necessary for securing employment.
