1. Set Microphone levels in Windows Record mixer window. Enable Select and Microphone Boost in the Advanced window.

2.  Check microphone levels in Cakewalk console window in record mode with Record checked.

3. If using  external synthesizer  set volume level for output

4. If recording in from synth  alone check PC Mixer Record input select Line In Balance.

5. If playing MIDI with external  synth,  upon playback check Windows Mixer Master volume  set level on  Line In balance to make sure it is not muted.

6. If recording with sound card or soft synth..Set MIDI balance in Master Volume on Windows Mixer.

7. Determine if you wish to use the Record Metronome and check or unclick this feature. It can be annoying and force you to start a second take if left unchecked.
